The generic richness of corals in Grande Island is comparatively lower than the other major reefs along the west coast of India. In total, 36 species of 20 genera and 91species of 34 genera were recorded in Gulf of Kachchh and Lakshadweep Islands respectively (Venkataraman, ). The coral formations around Grande Island are uneven in their.   The National Centre for Coastal Research, which comes under the Ministry of Earth Sciences, conducted a mapping of corals for Gulf of Kutch, Gulf of Mannar, Lakshadweep and Andaman and Nicobar.

The great barrier reef of Australia is the largest warm water reef and Rost reef off Norway is the largest cold water reef. The Gulf is about 99 kms. in length and divides Kutch and Kathiawar. The maximum depth of the water in this region is metres. HISTORY.
